Privacy Policy

Rank the Players ("we", "us") operates ranktheplayers.com, a site where visitors vote in head-to-head comparisons of footballers selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and see a crowd-sourced ranking. This policy explains what personal data we collect from visitors and account holders, why, and the choices you have.

1. Data we collect

Account data. If you sign up, we store your email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google.
Activity data. The votes and "supervotes" you cast, your in-app balance, and any referral code you create or use.
Technical data. A session identifier, IP address and basic device/browser information, used for security, rate-limiting and preventing vote manipulation.

We do not collect or store payment card details. If you choose to make a voluntary donation to support the project, that payment is processed entirely by Stripe on its own secure, hosted page, and we never receive or store your card number.

2. How we use it

To create and secure your account and let you vote.
To compute and display the leaderboard.
To prevent abuse, fraud and ballot-stuffing (rate limits and deduplication).
To respond to your requests and, if you opt in, to contact you about the service.

3. Legal bases (EU/UK users)

We process data to perform our contract with you (providing the service), on the basis of our legitimate interest in running and protecting the site, and, where required, on your consent (including consent for advertising cookies), which you may withdraw at any time.

4. Service providers

We share data only with providers that process it on our behalf:

Supabase handles our database, authentication and application hosting.
Cloudflare provides website hosting, content delivery and security.
Google, only if you choose to sign in with it.
Stripe processes optional, voluntary donations. It handles card details directly on its own hosted page, and we never receive or store them.
Google AdSense serves the third-party ads that keep the site free, and may set or read cookies to do so. See "Advertising" below for details and how to opt out.

We do not sell your personal data.

5. Cookies & local storage

We use cookies and browser local storage that are necessary to keep you signed in and to remember your session and preferences. We also allow our advertising partner, Google, to set cookies used to serve and measure ads (see "Advertising" below). In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, these advertising cookies are only set after you consent through the cookie-consent message shown on your first visit.

6. Advertising

We show third-party ads through Google AdSense to keep Rank the Players free. Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads and, where permitted, to personalise them based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

You are in control of this:

Manage or turn off personalised advertising in your Google Ad Settings.
Opt out of personalised advertising from participating vendors at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu.
In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before setting advertising cookies through a Google-certified consent message, and you can change your choice at any time from that message.

7. Data retention

We keep account and activity data for as long as your account is active. Voting records are retained in aggregate to maintain the integrity of the leaderboard. You can ask us to delete your account at any time (see below).

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, see our Data Deletion page or email us at support@ranktheplayers.com.

9. People featured on the site

Players shown on Rank the Players are public figures selected in published 2026 World Cup squads. Biographical facts and photographs are drawn from publicly available, openly-licensed sources (e.g. Wikidata / Wikimedia Commons). The site only includes adults. If you are a featured person and wish to be removed, email support@ranktheplayers.com and we will act on your request.

10. Age

You must be at least 13 to use the service. If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you must also be old enough under your country's law to consent to the processing of your personal data (16 in some countries) or have a parent or guardian's permission. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13; if you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International transfers

Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

We may update this policy; we will revise the "Last updated" date above when we do.
